This book should be required internship material!

As I begin to send out applications for my first administrative position, thoughts of the great responsibility, the challenges, and the complex and often unpredictable nature of the job are daunting. Throughout my training and internship I have received numerous helpful resources and read many inspiring texts, but after reading The New Principal's Fieldbook, I can say one thing with certainty: If I could only take one book through the door with me on my very first day as principal, this would be the one.

The New Principal's Fieldbook is an absolute gold mine of information. Written by seasoned administrators and including tales of trials and successes from countless others, this book takes a true "rubber-meets-the-road" approach that addresses the actual challenges new leaders will face. The New Principal's Fieldbook goes well beyond theory and philosophy to provide new principals with practical tools and suggestions that can be applied on the job. Within the fifteen well-organized chapters are dozens of tips, strategies, check-lists, and activities dealing with extremely helpful topics such as how to prepare for the first day of school, navigating the "hidden culture" and informal lines of communication within the building, ideas for how to cultivate cooperation with parents and community groups, crisis management, and working with the media to just name a few.

Even if the New Principal's Fieldbook sold for twice as much, it would be worth every penny of its purchase price. I am going to keep it close at hand and refer to it often!

Is helpful to someone looking to get into administration. It had activities after each section that you could do to improve in different areas. It didn't deal as much into "specific situations" like I would have liked.... but that might be too much to expect!

My grandson loves all things about Toy Story so he loved this book. The story is not long nor complicated. Just a basic Christmas story that teaches that presents aren't everything. I would recommend it.

Sweet book with an important message

While this book is shorter than we expected, it really has a beautiful message for children. It teaches them that presents aren't what Christmas is all about (doesn't have the biblical perspective...but it teaches them that real friends won't care if you can't get them a present and that you can still have fun together without presents. The kids loved this story and the illustrations are pretty great as well.

Got this for my three year old toy story obsessed son for Christmas. He will love it. The pictures are nice and it has a cute story that he will enjoy at bed time!

About the Author
William G. Zikmund, Ph.D., was a professor of marketing at Oklahoma State University until his death in 2002. He received his bachelor of science degree in marketing from the University of Colorado, a master of science degree from Southern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Colorado. Professor Zikmund worked in marketing research for Conway/Millikin Company and Remington Arms Company before beginning his academic career, and he had extensive consulting experience with business and not-for-profit organizations. Professor Zikmund published dozens of articles and papers in a diverse group of scholarly journals, including the JOURNAL OF MARKETING, ACCOUNTING REVIEW, and the JOURNAL OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY. He was the author of the successful textbooks EXPLORING MARKETING RESEARCH, BUSINESS RESEARCH METHODS, MARKETING, and EFFECTIVE MARKETING, as well as a work of fiction: A CORPORATE BESTIARY. Professor Zikmund was a member of several professional organizations, including the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science, the Association for Consumer Research, the Society for Marketing Advances, the Marketing Educators¿ Association, and the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators. This book is really to those who want to analyse why a particular phenomenon is behaving the way it is. The book is full of detailed survey examples and it just does not stop with the questionnaire and the data analysis but readers will be able to put a particular reason in terms of a function of attributes that contribute to the reason and that is really useful.

I'll be honest here...I logged into my Amazon account to review another product and this product also showed up as something needing my review...So...since I cannot remember when I ordered this, and I cannot honestly say that I remember the content, I'll give it a good healthy 4 star rating...because I can say that I (oddly) do seem to remember when I do dislike a book, and I do not remember disliking this one. So 4 star rating it is. Good luck!

Excellent General Marketing Research Text

I am an MBA/Graduate Marketing Research adjunct professor at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, MO and I am currently using this text for my class. The students find it very accessible, even for non-researchers, and easy to read. I find that it flows very well and makes good use of real-world examples. The only criticism is that there could be even more real-world cases and examples and some interactive projects that could better allow students to have a more hands-on learning experience. This text is very good overall, but I am needing to supplement the class with some outside real-world projects.

More valuable than ever before

This book is Theodor Adorno's critique of the 'de-conceptualizing conceptualism' that was characteristic of Heideggerian philosophy in particular and of disciplines influenced by existentialism in general. While much of this book's critical content goes back to the pre-World War Two era, what the author has to say about the origins and operation of irrationalizing 'subjectivism' and the ideological habits which support it, is in our own time even more applicable than ever before.

At the book's core is the contention that, in tandem with the general philosophical retreat away from rationalism triggered by late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century criticisms (Bergson, Nietzsche, Dilthey, Husserl, etc.) of idealist metaphysics and its contingent aspirations to truth, there was a subjectivizing impulse that, in Adorno's view, was content to elevate proximally emotional states of mind and pre-rational impressions to the status of philosophical, or, more exactly, ontological absolutes. Thus, instead of now arising from what some judged to be rationalism's stillborn questing for truth (as it no longer had any objective foundations), these new categories formed a compensatory subjectivizing 'jargon' ('compensatory` in the sense that the still reigning bourgeois rationalism needed supplemental amounts of irrationalism in order to keep functioning).

Adorno describes how words like "existential", "in the decision", "commission", "appeal", "encounter", "genuine dialogue", "statement", "concern", and the signature "authentic" all coalesced to denote what, in his opinion, constituted the subjectively immediate but irrationally 'authentic' as opposed to what was now regarded as the rationally suspect. He condemns the spread of such language as a specious linguistic game that compromises critical thought's real task and duty, premised as the jargon was, in Adorno's own pithy estimation, on "the fact that the words of the jargon sound as if they said something higher than what they mean...the terms of the jargon of authenticity are...words that are sacred without sacred content" (p. 9).

One of the most fascinating things about this book is that its criticisms bear witness to a time when such language had not yet given itself "over to either the market, to balderdash, or to the predominating vulgarity" (p. xxi) or had become the "stenciled speech" (p.89) that we all now take completely for granted. Can you imagine a time when leaders, writers, and intellectuals did not routinely ornament their statements with the self-referential cant of the 'ideology of the inner sublime', namely, that gratingly psychologizing frame of reference for all things in which feelings, emotions, inner dispositions, secret impulses, repressed desires, and the 'true me' are given portentous utterance whether it is in the least bit illuminating or not?

Adorno traces the emergence of this 'jargon of authenticity' from its initial appearances among some of the prevalent movements, trends, and conventions that came to characterize philosophy, theology, and sociology in the first half of the twentieth century; and he alerts us to how easily such discourse then spread to the 'culture industry' and was taken up by advertising in general. When Adorno prepared the book for its original publication in 1964, he was well aware of how much the jargon had come to permeate every space of our culture. Suffice it to say that we have long since reached the point where few things are expressed without such language being employed.

Adorno's critique is a rigorously philosophical one--executed in accordance with the critical categories of the Frankfurt School and his own daring Neo-Marxist application of them. I strongly recommend this formidably written book to any serious student of modern thought and our contemporary world of ideas: what Adorno has to say in these pages about the ideological uses of language--though dated in some passages--is even more relevant today given that, regardless of wherever we turn, there is no escape from "the unending mumble of the liturgy of inwardness" (p. 70).

Supplement to the Critique

This small text is something of a companion piece to the rather large critique of Heidegger in Negative Dialectics. Here, Adorno lambasts Heidegger primarily for his incessant archaism--i.e., the attempt to hear the whispers of being by pouring over the etymologies of his languages. Additionally, there are further criticisms regarding Heidegger's attempt to transform the concreteness of empirical alienation and domination by capitalism into transcendental concepts. In particular, the jargon of "thrownness" is regarded as a static, empty abstraction, wholly divorced from the socio-historical conditions that reify the subjectivity. While don't necessarily go as far with Adorno in identifying Heidegger's language with the language of advertising (for its deceitfulness), I do agree that the jargon developed into an authoritarian armor of sorts, and this is evident in the way contemporary Heidegger scholars endlessly debate the letter of Heidegger as though Being and Time were a holy document. Fundamental ontology never was entirely concerned with politics, and I think this becomes more evident in the late Heidegger. Nevertheless, and despite this critique, I think Adorno and Heidegger were animated by many shared problems, not the least of which, was the question of the crisis of modernity.

I assumed this book would have more of a universal message on authenticity, but it is well focused on theology, sociology and psychology. If you are already familiar with Kierkegaard and Heidegger, this is a good book for you.

Seller is excellent-- author is an idiot.

Required text for a course in college. Otherwise, I would NEVER buy a book by these authors. It had lots of opinion and not enough fact. What a world- as an older adult, I go back to school only to be forced to sit and listen to the propaganda of the elite trying to rouse up the poor- against "big business." Disgusting really.

The seller gave me an excellent price and a quick shipping.

I got this book on the LOW from Amazon for about 20 bucks used. It was in Like New condition I believe. It was very beneficial in my class. The instructor informed us that there was not much difference in the 2nd and 3rd editions I believe . It is also beneficial as a reference text. There are a lot of vocabulary and it is very easy to understand. GOOD BOOK GOOD PRICE

Must-read for anyone who wants to thrive and survive this madness

This book is mind-blowing. I had been on to some of the tricks and operations of our sociopathic elite for a while. And many people know about Edward Bernays and his early successful attempts at "engineering consent," but Dr. Napoleon explains WHY, WHO, WHAT, and HOW the ongoing destruction of our society is occurring.
And he's the first author I've encountered who has given me the tools to do something about it, and the psychological strength to even integrate this knowledge.
This is a must-read book for anyone who wants to have a chance of thriving in this globalist-run world.

This book is simply fantastic. For the practicing obstetrician, it encompasses almost all the issues dealing with the specialty, concerning operative techniques. For the student, there is a lot of new approaches to subjects that other books do not show. For example, there's an entire chapter on symphysiotomy, another on external cephalic version, both subjects very rarely seen in such depth in common textbooks. There's also a very good chapter on surgical basics, dealing with needles, sutures and knots. In short, i recommend this book for those who truly love Obstetrics' practice.

Ottolenghi scores big with "Ottolenghi"

My admiration for this author/chef knows no limits. Really. I've been cooking out of Ottolenghi's "Plenty" cookbook for the past year or so at least twice a week and it's changed the family's eating habits and appreciation of good taste astronomically. So when this newly published cookbook (from the restaurant menu) was published in the U.S., I was interested. At the same time, I wondered how the newbie could improve and/or expand on the author's two previous (and terrific) books. I shouldn't have been the least bit skeptical. "Ottolenghi" is even better than its predecessors and chock-a-block full of great new food.

I come to this opinion from the perspective of someone who cooks almost exclusively vegetarian dishes. "Ottolenghi" is about two-thirds non-meat in content. Lots of terrific new vegetable entrees and sides, with the usual emphasis on freshness, herbs, nuts and Middle East/Mediterranean spices. What's really new in the author's approach in this cookbook is a generous section on desserts (most of them adaptations of classics) and many recipes for sauces that can be used with a lot of different entrees or as dips, spreads, etc.

I'm just getting started in using this new book--and in fact started with dessert! How does chocolate chestnut bar sound? A kind of exotic brownie, but richer and creamier than the traditional approach. Killer taste. The same chapter includes a fine recipe for a more traditional brownie, but clearly better, judging from the ingredients.

I'm a total fan of this guy and his books and have been giving them as gifts for the past year. I even gave one to a Moroccan friend who is a wonderful cook, but who became an instant admirer and regular user of Ottolengthi's "Plenty". So get the new one or at least one of the earlier books--it/they will change your life.

I have so many cookbooks some might see it as ridiculous I buy yet another...but this one is really quite special. This book is very inspiring. Nice pictures, they really bring the dishes to life. However, it's the inventive, thoughtful combination of ingredients that just blow me away. Seriously, I just look at the picture of the green bean and pea dish and 20 other variations pop in my head. I am not a recipe follower too often, mostly I just read and then start chopping whatever is in the kitchen. I heartily recommend it even though I have barely read through 15 pages. The authors are VERY specific in their cooking directions in a really good way. They also like their veggies a bit on the crunchy side for our family's taste, but that is simple to change. I wish it was in paperback so it was easier to read in bed.

I am a fan of Ottolenghi recipes. I follow their Guardian column 'The New Vegetarian'. I find their recipes fresh, modern, bright and fun. So far I have tried couple of eggplant recipes, pistachio cookies and baked okra. All came out great. Their recipes in Guardian-online are fun as well.
Having said that, I wish they had serving suggestions in this book for recipes. It would also help to have some sample menus, specially for someone new to Mediterranean cooking.
I live in US and as such the book is cumbersome to use because of metric system used throughout. I don't mind that much, but it would have been nice to include a conversion table somewhere. Hopefully, there will be a US edition soon, but I could not wait for it to come out.
The book is beautifully laid out and the pictures are very tempting.
Overall, I like the book a lot.
