I like books that inspire and remind me of the bigger picture. It helps me stay on track with my goals and keep a good perspective. That's what this book does. And let's face it, frequent reminders about the big picture are very helpful while parenting.

Describing familiar concepts, the author has brought them to life with engaging story-telling and backed them up with research. By virtue of the author's own background and the many people she quotes, the book also offers a rich multicultural perspective. The conversational tone invites self-reflection. I especially appreciated the author's support for discipline, which did not encourage corporal punishment, but rather a structure for setting goals and boundaries. Overall, it was an uplifting book that gives sound advice to parents who want to help their children reach their full potential.

Whilst there are many parts of this book that I feel I have heard before there are also many things that I hadn’t heard. Speaking as a mother it was also good to see confirmation that I am not doing too bad a job.
Although this book is about raising youth many aspects of this book can be applied to your life no matter what your age is.
In many ways I was undecided how many stars to give this book. In many ways because I feel I have heard this advice many times before I was leaning towards 3 stars. However, I only came across this advice much later in life and this is the sort of advice someone had given me when I was a child, and for that reason I give it a 4.

There was an invisible wall around her that he had to break down in order to get to what her really wanted which was her heart. John was determined to win her love, but in order to do that, he had to win her trust, something that Nina had lost long ago. John was determined to have her and he held back nothing in his pursuit of her love. Nina couldn't resist the romantic way he swept her off her feet until she could finally admit that she loved him, too, but she was still keeping secrets from him. Her past was too painful to share and it took all of John's patience and quite a bit of his skill as a psychotherapist to get her to open up to him. Nina did open to John and during a romantic trip to Puerto Rico, she shared more of her past with him than she'd ever shared with anyone, but in the following weeks a crisis arose that sent her back to her home in Oakland, CA leaving only a terse goodbye letter that could have been put on a Post-it note. John goes after her to put their love on the line; either she can trust him with her whole heart or their relationship can't last. She is stunned that he came for her but she is still afraid that telling him the truth about her past will destroy everything. After John hears the true story of her life he loves her even more and he proves that love by bringing her a gift of closure that is beyond any dream she's ever had. Melanie Schuster's done it again...and I'm so grateful.

In Melanie Schuster's latest "A Fool for You" we are reintroduced to John Flores and Nina Whitney who we first encountered in "Something to Talk About". Having met months ago when Nina signed on to serve as the ghostwriter for John's upcoming book, these two have shared a fiery relationship which has included dealing with John's being reunited with his long lost family and suffering with a severe illness. Through it all Nina, also called "Miss Parker" by John, has been a great supporter and friend.

Nina has perfected a cool, professional exterior which would scare away a less confident man than John. However, having seen a glimpse of a hot passionate woman below Nina's carefully crafted exterior, John is intrigued deeply by Nina. Driven to action after seeing her dance with other men at a wedding reception they are both attending, John is determined to get to know Nina better. It is a task that won't be easily accomplished, but makes for a wonderfully pleasant reading experience.

Ms. Schuster, as always, crafts an engaging and remarkable story. As in past books, we are treated to updates of our favorite characters from the Cochran/Devearaux families. As I have come to expect of one of Ms. Schuster's books, "A Fool for You" was a delightful read with enough drama to keep me reading on and on.

Love this book, but my 7 year old is loving it way more, I think. He is doing his research all ready. He wants his Dragonborn Ranger to hopefully find a baby Phase Kitten/Displacer Beast to raise as his animal companion. The Baby Bestiary is a must have for your little adventurers and us adults alike. It is loaded with everything that's needed to know about the little guys and suggested ways of rearing them up. Wonderful read and amazing art. It's a great fun read and perfect for your coffee table as well.

Lots of great monsters, and they're babies too

Our 4 year old loves this. Lots of great monsters, and they're babies too! The illustrations range from good to excellent with lots of familiar and some less familiar monsters (Owlbear, that's you!) Just over half the book is text which is written in character with tongue firmly in cheek. Anyone who has watched (too much) My Little Pony will recognize most of these, and any dice-rollers will recognize all of them. A very impressive product from a small company and a big-hearted Kickstarter success.

A GREAT GUIDE TO ACHIEVE TRUE INTIMACY IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP

The principle that quantity time is key for relationship success, underpins the 5-night plan - i.e. for couples to spend 5 continues days/nights together. It again reminds us that quality time alone isn’t ever enough, because relationship ‘is about being, not having’. Whoever coined ‘quality time’ as a substitute for on-going contact, simply was wrong.

The premise of continuous process-contact seems simple, but it is profound and novel. This is because the other relationship cornerstones such as trust, true intimacy and communication flow from it. How many couples have you seen sitting opposite one another in restaurants but engaging in social media on their smartphones? It is sad and troubling and probably says a lot about the state of these relationships and indeed our society as a whole.

What can you expect from the book? The first section essentially sets-out your plan and preparation for the 5 nights. The second section is what you can expect from spending more time with your partner, i.e. the outcomes. It also contains lots of ‘how-to-do’ for your 5-night plan. There is no shortage of advice on what you "should" get out of a relationship, and how it "should" work. 5 Night Plan was refreshing for its less dogmatic approach. Simmonds leaves most of the rules to you, but provides more of a framework for communicating your rules in a setting conducive to making progress in your relationship whether it's new or established. I've already constructed my "plan" using the book, and am excited to say that just the process of planning has been of help. In a world obsessed with "what's hot" this book provides a more timeless path to long-term relationship success. If you value your relationship this book is well worth investing in.
