Lisa grew up with an overactive imagination, strong encouragement from her parents, and an insatiable infatuation with the Peanuts gang. That infatuation—along with an impatience she has yet to outgrow—jump-started her love of writing. After all, why should she be forced to wait a whole week to read the stories of her favorite characters when she could create stories for them whenever she wanted? That love of writing continued to grow, along with all those voices in her head, even during her assorted careers: first as a firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department, then a very brief (and not very successful) stint at bartending in east Baltimore, and finally as the Director of Retail Operations for a busy Civil War non-profit. NHL defenseman Randy Michaels needs to revamp his reputation to prolong his career. He invests in a restaurant and becomes interested in the chef, Alyssa Harris.
Lisa B. Kamps’ Body Check is an entertaining and enjoyable read.
I liked Alyssa. Some of her food creations sounded delicious, making my mouth water. I liked that she was open to trying Randy’s suggestions even though he does not have a culinary background. I also found her first hockey game experience amusing; not to mention, Randy’s “hockey lessons” after the game.
I enjoyed Randy’s character. He grew a lot throughout the story. I was not, however, a fan of Randy’s agent.
The plot was well-written and believable. The characters have their difficulties. I thought it was interesting that the restaurant’s business plan did not quite end up as the women envisioned. I appreciated the epilogue; it was a fun conclusion.

I enjoyed this story. It was a good love story between a hockey player and a chef. Randy has to clean up his act and decides to invest in his sister's restaurant and meets Alyssa. Val, Randy's sister, meddles a bit when she sees the sparks between Randy and Alyssa.
Randy isn't looking for a relationship and Alyssa doesn't think a guy like him could possibly want something serious with a girl like her. However, their attraction is so strong they can't stay away from each other. There were times I wanted slap them, but they came to their senses. Randy does a lot of growing up in the story.
This is a story I will probably reread.

A believable and compelling story of love

Oh Randy. He's such an alpha "do what I want" male. And Alyssa. She's just a chef. And by just, I mean, her life's work is being a chef. She wants to be successful. Along with her friends and Randy's money, they open a sports bar to cater to women.
First off, I want this sports bar in my life. Give me this place over Hooters or BWW any day of the week.
Alyssa is not Randy's typical hook up. She's not the girl he should fall for. But fall he does. And hard. Randy's transformation throughout the story is not only believable, it's compelling.
